Concert

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know that the Winter Concert was AWESOME!!!

6th Graders - you really stepped up and played really well together for the first time as a group! Mrs. Carter was and is very proud of you all! Keep up the good work and continue to work hard to get even better in the Spring.

7th and 8th Graders - Great job as always! You sounded like a very mature orchestra and your teachers are very proud of you as well!

Chamber groups - AWESOME!

**JAZZ CHAMBER - you will NOT have rehearsal on Dec 11 and 18. Please work hard on your music and listen to your CD over Christmas Break. Promise it will be a BIG HELP!!!

**SCHUMANN - you have a performance on Dec. 15 at Alton Square. Invite your parents' to attend! It will be nice to have an audience to play for. You have another one on Dec. 18 at the Senior Service Center. Please make sure your gig folders are in order and more importantly be respectful of the venues you will be playing. Respect the citizens at the Senior Center. They have requested you and we EXPECT you to be on your BEST behavior and well mannered.

Think that's it for right now....

IMEA and other news....

Congratualtions to all of the IMEA participants that attended the IMEA festival at EHS on Nov. 7th! The concert was great and we heard all day how this years' orchestra was the best orchestra we have had in years! We hope that you were able to take away something from the guest conductor Jan Davis!

CONCERT is coming up on December 1st!!!! We will have our first concert of the year on December 1st at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. PLEASE BE THERE AT 6:15 for warm up/sound check. REMEMBER to wear your RED AMS POLO and Black from the waist down!

JAZZ CHAMBER - we have our last rehearsal on Nov. 20 before the concert. PLEASE make every effort to attend that rehearsal. We will only run Jingle Bell Rock that day and will probably be done by 3:30. Please be sure to have a ride there!

THANKSGIVING BREAK is coming up but PLEASE CONTINUE to PRACTICE your instrument over the break because the Tuesday that we come back is our concert!

Thanks!

Congrats!

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the participants who made IMEA!!!! Make sure you get a letter from Ms. Drayton and your $15 needs to be turned in by October 27th!

6TH GRADE - Please turn in any late practice logs and/or progress reports! You have another Practice Log that is due on the 20th (next Tuesday) and another Progress Report that is due on the same day. Please get those in ON TIME!

JAZZ CHAMBER - We will be having rehearsl every Friday after school this month except for Oct. 23rd. That is the day of Parent Teacher Conferences. Also be thinking of a new name for us. Vivaldi won't work this year :) PLEASE listen to the CD that I made you. ALL of our songs are on there except Jingle Bell Rock, but I'm sure you all know how that goes.

REFERENCES - Jazz chamber, listen to Leroy Anderson's Buglers Holiday and Benny Goodmans' Sing Sing Sing for style. If any of you would like CD's made of those two songs or songs like that, let me know and I will make them for you.

Please keep checking this site for more info.

Thanks -
Carter

Vivaldi

Hey there!

Vivaldi, a.k.a. Jazz Chamber, will begin on Friday Oct. 9th. I will have music copied on Oct 1st but will not be at school on that day. IF you would like to get music from me before the 9th then come see me.

Please try to attend the first rehearsal! I've already had one person come talk to me because they will be out of town.

This music is difficult and we need EVERYONE there at ALL rehearsals.

See you on the 9th at 3:00 p.m.

Jazz Orchestra

Ok, I have heard from almost all of you.

We will be having rehearsals on Fridays from 3:00 - 4:00 STARTING OCTOBER 9th! This will give me enough time to make copies of music to pass out on that day.

We will be perfoming 4 times:
December 1st - Winter Concert
Solo and Ensemble Contest
April 22nd - Spring Concert
May 18th - Showcase Concert

If you have any questions let me know!

Jazz Chamber Orchestra

Ok, so I have heard back from most of you and I think we have decided to have rehearsals on FRIDAYS after school from 3:00 - 4:00.

WE WILL NOT START UNTIL OCTOBER and I will give you more info then.

Jazz Chamber will play on the following concerts:
SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST (March 20)
SPRING CONCERT (April 22)
SHOWCASE CONCERT - this will be with the guest quartet - Fiddleback! (May 18)

Go to www.fiddlebackmusic.com to check them out!

We are starting in the Fall because the music we are playing (especially for Showcase) will be HARD and we need extra time.

On our first rehearsal in October, I'm hoping to have all of the music copied and passed out.

This is going to be so fun! I'm looking forward to it!

TURN IN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME!

That is all....

for now.....

ALL FORMER VIVALDI MEMBERS

If you were in Vivaldi in your 7th or 8th grade year, PLEASE SEE MRS. CARTER sometime this week! I am thinking about having a jazz orchestra this year and doing it for the whole year rather than starting it after Christmas. This is something different and am wondering if you are interested.

It will still be only one day a week AFTER school for an hour.

If you are in Schumann, you MUST keep up your commitment with that group in order to be in mine. If you are missing rehearsals for Schumann and are "kicked out" then you are out of the jazz group as well...so SERIOUSLY think if you are able to commit to 2 performing groups AND keep up with your Full Orchestra literature as well.
